Anthropic bets $6,000-plus connector ecosystem on Claude Duet
The new business-focused agent targets professionals and small businesses, aiming to automate tasks without handling personal errands or direct financial trades.

The artificial intelligence sector is currently saturated with new productivity tools, with competitors releasing new assistants on a weekly basis. Into this crowded market, Anthropic has launched Claude Duet, a new application designed to capture user attention by targeting a specific niche. The move places the company in direct competition with established players like Meta Muse, OpenAI Dots, Hark, Instinct, Grok Bot, and Fo. This entry signals a strategic pivot for Anthropic, moving beyond general chat interfaces toward specialized operational tools.
The primary tension in this launch lies in how Anthropic positions Duet against its rivals. While many competitors focus on personal assistants that can handle errands and ticket bookings, Duet is explicitly built for professionals and small businesses. Anthropic draws a clear line in the sand, noting that Duet is not designed for personal tasks like booking flights. Furthermore, unlike some competitors, it does not provide a live visual feed of its browser activity, prioritizing backend efficiency over real-time transparency.
Instead of handling personal chores, Duet focuses on business automation. It can generate daily briefings, create custom dashboards, and suggest actions based on user data. The agent operates through its own virtual machine, allowing it to complete tasks in the background while the user focuses on other work. It will only interrupt the user when specific approval is needed, creating a workflow that emphasizes uninterrupted focus.
Connectivity is a major component of this strategy. Built on the Claude Opus 5.5 model, Duet integrates with over 6,000 connectors and plug-ins available in the Claude Marketplace. This extensive network allows the agent to interact with a wide variety of professional tools. The platform also supports online purchasing through Stripe’s Link digital wallet or Shopify’s Shop Pay, enabling the agent to execute transactions on the user's behalf.
Security and control remain central to the product design. Anthropic states that sensitive actions, such as payments, require explicit user approval. To maintain trust, the agent will not trade securities or transfer money between accounts. Additionally, the company introduced a new classifier that scans each message to prevent sensitive data leaks. By default, Duet will decline requests that ask for credit card numbers or government identification, adding a layer of privacy protection.
The launch reflects a broader market shift from simple AI assistants to autonomous agents that can work on behalf of users. Many of Anthropic’s rivals are already pursuing this business-oriented angle. Meta’s Muse, while primarily a personal assistant, has a version tailored for small businesses with app integrations. Similarly, OpenAI’s Dots leans into business use cases through its integration with professional software tools.
Claude Duet is currently available as a research preview. It can be accessed as an app on iOS and Android, as well as on the web through Claude.ai. Access is limited to Pro and Max customers who have joined the waitlist. As the market continues to evolve, this release marks a significant step for Anthropic in competing for the professional and small business segment of the AI economy.
